Interview Three: Rose Langbein

Rose Langebein

Tell us some things about you...
• I’m a freelance brand strategist and writer, currently living in Lisbon.

• I have written two cookbooks, both with my lovely mother, Annabel.

• I was born in New Zealand and left home at 17 to live in Sweden. Since then I have lived in India, Australia, France, the US, and now Portugal. I travel as much as I can and love the stimulation I get from meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

• I studied philosophy, literature, and french — whilst these don’t directly apply to the work I do now, they have helped to form my perspective on the world and shape my mind, for which I am grateful.

What is your favourite thing to do, daily?
• The highlight of each day for me is definitely cooking dinner. I love to spend the day thinking about what I am going to make and planning the meal. Even if it is something simple, I love to sit at the table with my boyfriend Hamish and have a glass of wine and light a candle or two and hang out. It’s a nice way to bookend the day.

What is something you live by?
• If you focus on the positive things in life you will be a much happier and joyful person. Even if it is the smallest thing — like the morning light on a building, or the first blooms of spring — noticing these small moments can give you a lot of joy and faith in the world we live in.

What’s up next for you?
• Learning Portuguese! We just moved here a week ago so there is a lot to learn. Finding an apartment, building a home, making some friends, exploring the country — all exciting times.

What are you working on at the moment?
I just launched a gin, Bella, which has been a lot of fun. We only did a small run the first batch but are ramping up production which is exciting. It’s been a really fun project.

What L'aura the Label piece do you wear the most and why?
• I live in my white Miranda Kimono. I bought a black one for Hamish too and often wear his as well. They are the most comfortable delicious thing ever. I got a navy for my brother, Sean too, and Annabel has one too, we’re hooked. Ted (my dad) is up next.. I also have two of the May Wrap tops in olive and mustard that I wear all the time. Whenever I wear them I feel like I’m getting a lovely hug from Laura.

What drew you to L'aura the Label in the beginning?
Laura! Of course. She is one of my dearest oldest friends and I know that everything she touches and engages with will be divine. I love the simplicity of her clothing. It’s so elegant but also very timeless and so incredibly comfortable. The sort of thing you wear everyday, forever.
