Interview One: Laura Beverley

Tell us some things about you...
- I was born in Hong Kong and my parents are from New Zealand. My sisters and I grew up in both places.

- I trained to be an actress and did a fine arts degree in photography. I combined the two for a while (headshots for other actors and stills on film sets). Over the years I realised I preferred photography as hobby and on a budget I can make a film roll last a very long time.  Acting made me look inside and I didn't like what I saw, so at a relatively young age I went on a big journey to like my insides. I discovered a lot about myself, met my soul mate, and stepped into a new path. I still act now when the opportunity is there (actually more freely than before), but I am no longer desperate for career in it. Something I NEVER thought I would admit.

- I live in Bali with Jimmy (in the home and Healing Centre we have been been building and growing for the last few years)!

What is your favourite thing to do for you, daily?
In the morning, I like to make a hot drink and sit and watch the light change on all the trees. Our view is literally a jungle!

Something you live by (or aim to live by)?
Be the best I can be, and do the best I can for others while I am alive.

What's next for you?
Completing the next part of the build (we are on 'pause' until we can afford it). More info about it all is here www.laurahealing.com.

What L’aura the Label piece do you love / wear the most? Why?
The Miranda Kimono. Jimmy and I share a black and an olive one. First thing in the morning (when it is still cool) it's like walking around with a thin blanket on. And after a shower in the evening it's just the most comforting thing to wear and feels really elegant. At the moment I have also been living in the Gabriel Shorts.

Why did you start L'aura the Label?
1) To have income to buy land and build the Healing Centre. Before we started in 2019, we kept meeting people who owned online labels and they encouraged us to start (I wont forget that). I still have had to work a lot of other jobs while laying the foundations. So for me it has felt fun from day one, I haven't taken it too seriously, and I just keep trying.

2) To make garments and items that people will love and use in their daily life. No matter where you are, or what is going on for you, when you have something that makes you feel comfortable, you are ok in that moment. And if something more is needed, our healing service is in reach.
