Interview Four: Julia Novy

Tell us some things about you...
I grew up in Germany but have always loved travelling, immersing myself in new cultures and experiencing the beauty Mother Earth has to offer. In my mid-twenties I decided to go on a big solo adventure to the other side of the world and travelled through Australia for one year before following a calling to travel to New Zealand, where I now live with my partner Hamish and our 1 month old son Ezra. I studied and practiced as a freelance photographer in Berlin but discovered my passion for health and wellness while traveling and facing some of my own health issues. The universe one day lead me into my current work place Hana, a wellness space offering infrared sauna and red light therapy, where I work as a Content Creator amongst a team of inspiring women who all share the same values.

What is your favourite thing to do for you, daily?
With having a newborn most of my daily practices are currently on pause but I’m hoping to resume my daily mediations again once we have found a routine. While this is on hold I still remind myself of 3 things that have brought me joy that day. This helps me to stay grounded, humble and grateful for all the beautiful things life has to offer.

Something you live by (or aim to live by)?
The best advice I’ve ever been given is to live in the present moment and let go of all expectations and pressure other people put onto you. Another mantra I always keep in the back of my mind is that every situation is impermanent. So whenever things are hard one can be sure that it will pass and reminds us to cherish every single moment as it will naturally pass as well.

What’s up next for you?
As I have just transitioned into motherhood, probably the biggest life change I could have possibly experienced, I’m still getting used to the new pace of life while nurturing this precious little being. My partner Hamish and I also got engaged recently and would love to get married once my family is able to take the long journey and visit us for this very special occasion. We’d also love to take Ezra to Germany to meet the rest of my part of the family.

What has motherhood taught you so far?
Patience and the ability to ask for support. Becoming a mother is incredibly empowering but despite the rush of happy hormones, this time can also feel very overwhelming. Every day comes with its highs and lows but if one has got the right support and the courage to ask for support and advice, the new challenges will feel way more manageable. My friend and naturopath Shaz has been my go to person to ask for advice as she has too stepped into motherhood recently. While on maternity leave she has worked on the launch of her brand La Luna Mama of naturopathical botanical blends to support female wellbeing throughout all stages of live. Having her, my partner and other friends and family as a support system has played an integral part in my postpartum experience.

What L’aura the Label piece do you love / wear the most?
My favourite piece is the black Enya Wrap Dress, which has been the perfect dress for my expanding bump during pregnancy and is now also great for breastfeeding.

What drew you to L’aura the Label at the beginning?
I love supporting small businesses with values that align with my own. When buying clothes I’d like to buy sustainably and in moderation. Laura’s designs are all so versatile and timeless and will stay in my wardrobe for a long time.
