Interview Thirteen - Johanna-May Manks

Tell us some things about you...
- I love traveling with my family and immersing myself in different cultures.  Because I work in Fashion I love getting inspiration from other countries.  My family are from Europe so that would be the pick of places for me to visit and nurture that inspiration.

- I work in my passion, I am very lucky that I feel I have chosen the best job for Me.  I love inspiring people and helping people feel confident so what I do is both rewarding and fun.  Being a Personal Stylist I really get to meet some amazing people from all walks of life.  It really doesn’t feel like work.

- I have to have nice things around me to feel content, I am always looking at how I can add something to my surroundings to create that happy space.  Even my food has to look good, there is no way I would eat anything that wasn’t aesthetically pleasing.  Eek!

What is your favourite thing to do for you, daily?
- Something I have learnt about myself is I have to make sure I do something (small) for myself each day otherwise I feel out of sorts.  This will be either some exercise, a meditation or a walk with my dog or listening to a podcast.  Just taking time out of the ordinary is important.

Something you live by (or aim to live by)?
- I work by my gut instinct.  If my gut tells me to wait or not do something I won’t.  And on the other hand if it tells me I can do it - I’ll step into it and do it even if it is pushing my boundaries.  My gut instinct has never got me wrong.

What’s up next for you?
For work, it is now continuing to grow in the Virtual space.  I now do 6 month Image & Style Mentorship Programmes with ladies all over the World.  I am loving this space and being able to reach people anywhere on our Globe.  I get to organise ladies' shopping wherever they may be.  It’s fabulous.  I will continue to work in-person with clients in Auckland as well, this is also very rewarding.
In my personal space  I will be working on my next overseas trip, perhaps Europe next year but I also have a great desire to ski in Japan. Watch this space!

Where else can we connect with you?
I have a Private Style Group which your L'aura the Label ladies are welcome to join
I have a Free online Masterclass coming up in about a month... more information found via the Group!

What L’aura the Label piece do you love / wear the most? Why?
I love my Sania Skirt.  I love it because it is super versatile, I can dress it up or dress it down and I love wearing it with a feminine top, slouchy sweat or a t-shirt & denim jacket.  It’s perfect!

What drew you to L’aura the Label at the beginning?
It goes without saying Laura, I love what you are doing, your mission and your passion.  For me it’s not just about the garment it’s the whole story.  I met you a number of years ago when your Mum introduced me to you and your sisters.  Your whole family is a delight to know and when you started your own fashion label I just needed to be a part of it.
