Interview Eight: Emma Brooks

Tell us some things about you...
I'm 48, never married, no kids but I'm a fur baby Mum and I do have a very cute nephew to spend lots of time with. I move between Sydney and the Central coast. I grew up as an artist and a dancer and wanted to be a professional contemporary dancer until my right knee and Achilles tendon said no to that. Surviving anorexia nervosa from age 12 - 17 is probably one of my greatest achievements. At 20 I studied Fashion Design at what is now the National Arts School and worked for about 10 years in the industry. Then I studied singing for a year then acting for 3 years. At 37 I developed chronic fatigue and eventually gave up career ambitions. These days I illustrate when I'm inspired and focus more on a living peaceful existence.

What is your favourite thing to do for you, daily?
Be outside listening to nature soaking up some sun. I also like to make it a daily habit to dance to music I love and sing some songs.

Something you live by (or aim to live by)?
I probably live mostly by "action speaks louder than words" and enjoying the simple things.

What’s up next for you?
Probably making someone laugh or helping them.......that includes myself.

What L’aura the Label piece do you love / wear the most? Why?
My hand painted cotton kimono. It's beautiful to wear in Summer on a sunny day 😍

What drew you to L’aura the Label at the beginning?
From meeting Laura years ago and following the journey into the big wide fashion world!
